Comfort Zones

I’ve signed up for a course. It’s called Teaching with Tablets from a UK university. It’s a seven week MOOC. I’m already really excited about it.

I’m doing it because I want to explore other ways of teaching with tablets.  But also to learn about MOOCs. The concept of online learning isn’t new.

I’m excited by the MOOC because

  • It’s short. From a practical point of view I prefer intense focused projects.
  • It’s relevant. Sometimes things that don’t relate directly to practical application frustrate me.
  • It’s a new thing. I haven’t tried this before and I believe in sustaining my own learning.
  • It’s a new thing. I haven’t tried this before and I believe in sustaining my own learning.
  • I can work in my own time whenever I want.
  • It’s multi discipline and international.

So far I’ve been really impressed. We’ve discussed a wide range of different tools, used different ways of communicating, and shared lots of ideas.

We’ve had a chat on Twitter by appointment where lots of people participated.

We are using Google+ as a platform for our learning and collaboration.

There is also a map which shows our distribution all over the world. It’s amazing to be able to collaborate with so many educators so accessibly. There is no way I could’ve done this like this so easily in the past.

I’ll keep you posted on how I get on. I’ve just posted my first assignment.

Have you tried a course on line? Ordains another way of learning new Tech Skills?

Were they successful?

  1. Liz, I’m really enjoying your Blog. Thanks for sharing your reflections on taking part in the TWT16 MOOC. We’re delighted that there is such a lovely Google+ community, with everyone so generously sharing their ideas and giving feedback, and it’s so international. Best wishes – keep up the great work! 1. Thanks Belinda. I have another blog that is about the environment which I’ve had a lot longer. This one hasn’t been a big focus but the MOOC has given me a shove to use it again another plus.
